Gallium, cobalt and tantalum hold for many characters in the fantasy saga The Lord of the Rings. In fact, however, the waste from the underworld essential for many key technologies. News.de lists the ten most important raw materials of the future.

The growth of world economy will drive the demand for traditional commodities such as iron, steel or copper. With advances in technology are booming but are also elements that lead is still a niche.

Even commodities are subject to large fluctuations. In March of the cocoa crisis, the speech was a ton of cocoa beans reached a 30-year high of almost 2600 €. Now the bubble has burst: In London, the price fell to around 1900 pounds. Unlike agricultural commodities, the price is significantly influenced by the successful harvest, decide on rare metals and minerals and energy security on the value.

Many of the better metals SeltenerdmetalleDie name would be the rare earths. The elements usually occur only in small quantities in many, widely dispersed layered minerals and when blended into other minerals. for example, according to estimates by Thomas Puls, substituted commodities expert at the Institute of German Economy in Cologne, is difficult, therefore, be replaced by other substances. They are generally not as rare as silver, but they are almost exclusively included in ores such as monazite or before Bästnasit. Therefore, a reduction of rare earth metals is expressed most difficult – and costly.

Most underrated: Phosphate

The most underrated substance is, according to pulse but none of the rare earths, but a proverbial about important substance, namely phosphate. As phosphorus fertilizer for plants, the mineral will be given the growing world population is of enormous importance in heart rate predicts news.de conversation. “Without phosphorus, no life. If populated in 30 to 40 years, nearly ten billion people the earth, the food production and critical size. ”

Phosphates are millions of years ago dead algae, which were deposited in the earth. It supports the salt, especially in China, the United States and Morocco. PeakDer their term comes from English and means “summit, peak, peak value. In the economic statistics referred to as the Peak Oil-the global oil production peak. (Peak) will achieve the promotion of phosphate according to expert estimates, in about 20 years, then one must adjust to declines in production – combined with growing demand.

In a study for the Association of Bavarian industry (VBW), the Institute calculated the “risk index” of 37 metals and minerals. In this case, the scientists on criteria such as the statistical range (as long as there are still occurrences?), The country risk (what is the political stability of producing countries?) Or the significance of future technologies such as laser technology, medical technology, photovoltaics and propulsion technologies

1. Yttrium
The red list of commodities with the highest supply risk in the study leads to a result of yttrium. This rare earth is required for the construction of permanent magnets for electric motors and laser devices and is virtually irreplaceable. Moreover, it is almost exclusively (99 percent) in China reduced. The well-known and recoverable reserves of yttrium are in relation to demand lower than for all other metals of this group.

2. to 4 Cobalt, tungsten, neodymium and scandium
While the latter two also include the group of rare earth and could therefore experience similar supply problems as yttrium, cobalt and tungsten are almost indispensable for special alloys. Cobalt occurs naturally in front of practically pure form, but only in combination with nickel, copper and other ores. Moreover, about 40 percent of global production are currently being promoted in the unstable Congo. Besides the use of cobalt for super alloys is needed especially for storage batteries.

5. Tungsten carbide
The counts related to carbon production of tungsten carbide the hardest material and is required for cutting tools or the military. Also put in light bulbs tungsten. Although there are in Germany and Austria this heavy metal deposits, the main producing country but is currently by far China, which represents about 80 percent of world production.

6. Phosphate
In addition to its above-described role as a fertilizer for food production, the mineral is taking in the coming years an important role in the production of lithium iron phosphate batteries. The efficiency of these batteries is still not as high as in conventional lithium-ion batteries, but they have a higher heat resistance and significantly faster charging times. So that they could be used to the fuel cell technology is an alternative.

7. Niobium
This metal finds use in special steels. More than 90 percent of global production only in three countries (mainly Brazil) and by only three companies. Although niobium is substituted by other metals such as tantalum, molybdenum or tungsten. Most of these substitutes but not achieve the same effect and are often more expensive.

8. and 9 Selenium and germanium
These substances belong with indium to the “spice metals.” These are distinguished by the fact that they occur very rarely and can also be obtained only as a byproduct. Of indium, which is degraded primarily with zinc ores, there were worldwide in 2007, only about 11,000 tonnes of reserves. Spice metals are “bycatch” – that is, the main product such as zinc or copper is not reduced, so there is no indium or germanium. Use find these particular metals in photovoltaic, LED technology, mobile phone or infrared systems.

10. Palladium, platinum and rhodium
The platinum metals are only used interchangeably. Since South Africa and Russia hold about 80 percent of world production of these precious metals, the degree of concentration is extremely high. Principal use of platinum metals catalysts car, but also in the electrical industry and in the jewelry sector is the demand high. It is through the use of catalysts in annual lost of precious metals stocks go high, they are literally on the street (as particulates).

The recycling potential is not yet fully exploited. In addition, platinum metals for financial investors of interest. Thus, the cost ounces of rhodium in the summer of 2008, about 10,000 U.S. dollars and this was almost ten times as expensive as gold, to the price at the end of the year fell to $ 1,000.

The light metal lithium is conducted in the study to 11th place. This metal is important for the batteries technology. The problem is that the largest lithium brines in Bolivia, Chile and Argentina can be found. Completing the red group with chromium and molybdenum to rank 12 to rank 14th

The heavy metal chromium is not replaceable and is currently being produced, especially in countries that either already used or where this strategic raw materials are feared in the future must be. Moreover, they argue that countries of Kazakhstan, Turkey or Russia is more than (political) risk countries. And molybdenum is also not easily be substituted – the specialty metal is used primarily for alloys used in aircraft and rocket construction as well as in displays and solar cells.

The price determines the occurrence

Rare as rare earths are in fact depends crucially on the market. Peter Buchholz, head of commodity economy at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources provides almost none of the substances have a long-term bottleneck. can “Geologically it not be said that there is a shortage of these commodities. Short and medium term, there can be significant supply problems, as now rare in the earth.

Growing demand or shortage in supply such as export restrictions by increasing the price – and thus the development of new deposits “lucrative, says Buchholz. “The earth is not full of holes like Swiss cheese.” Through exploration would arise constantly new reserves.

As tantalum: During the IT boom in the early 2000s increased the demand so rapidly that the price increased five-fold and from the mines could not be replenished fast enough. Tantalum is used for the construction of capacitors in mobile phones and electronics division. Today, no delays remain.

Resource-rich Germany

are really just opinion Buchholz could “the two special metals neodymium and dysprosium. This would expect a supply deficit in 20 years. For them there are no real substitutes, that is, the two metals can not be replaced by other substances. They are used for magnetic resonance imaging, micro-motors and drives, as well as for permanent magnet rotors in wind turbines or electric cars.

By the way, Germany is by no means a resource poor country, as is often claimed: The Federal Republic is the world number one in the degradation of brown coal and the third largest producer of potash and kaolin. How the raw material and opens up the German AG is currently the single major mining companies since 2006, the deposits from Flensburg to Freiburg – a license for rare earths, the company has in the Saxon Stork joke.

China’s iron ore production in 5 years, 1.3 billion tons of excess headings: China iron

The Chinese economy still needs a lot of iron, but the country relies on increasingly expensive exports of iron ore. Therefore, the government invests heavily in exploration and purchases of foreign mines.

The shortage of iron ore in China is expected to gradually be attenuated by the discovery of more deposits in the domestic and the acquisition of more and more mines abroad, an industry expert said on Wednesday in Tianjin. Iron ore production was expected to exceed China’s within three to five years, 1.3 billion tons, said Zhou Zhongshu, president of China Minmetals Corporation, China’s currently being held at the mine Conference and Exhibition. The domestic iron ore supply increased steadily over the past two years, said Zhou. Last year, China’s investment in the mineral exploration rose by 17 percent or 27 billion yuan (2.98 billion euros) over the previous year, the name of the Ministry of Land and Resources. In the past 12 years, China had over 900 new reserves, including 152 large and super large, discovered, so the statistics of the Ministry.

Acquisitions abroad. In the first nine months of 2010, the iron ore production in China increased by 26 percent to 780 million tonnes compared to the same period last year. In addition, the iron ore imports fell during the same period by 2.5 percent to 460 million tonnes, while in 2009 was still recorded an increase of 41.6 percent. The mining companies in China are now looking for opportunities to acquire mines abroad and to guarantee the supply, said Zhou.

The share of iron ore mines abroad, including those under construction, supply one year yield of 190 million tons of iron ore, which are 30 percent of the imports of the country, he said. The China Minmetals Corporation is the largest iron and steel trader in China. The company, based in Beijing has its main business area in the production of and trade in metals and minerals, including copper, aluminum, tin, lead, zinc and nickel.

Aurora Gold Corporation Announces Initial analysis results of the drilling on the Front Range Gold Project known DJ DGAP-News: Aurora Gold Corporation is first analysis results of the drilling on the Front Range Gold Project Aurora Gold Corp. announced. / Keyword (s): Interim Report

Train, Switzerland. 16. November 2010. Aurora Gold Corporation (WKN 904 846, USA, OTCBB: ARXG), a mineral exploration company focused on exploration and development in the Tapajos Gold Province, State of Pará, and on the Front Range Gold Project in Boulder County, Colorado, USA reported from the latest work in the Front Range Gold Project (‘FRGP’) in Boulder County, Colorado.

The FRGP is about 15 km from the city of Boulder, Colorado, and was removed since the discovery of gold in this district in the mid-1800s years, the center of gold mining. In June 2010, Aurora acquired a 50 -% stake in the Black Cloud Mine, a gravity-flotation plant with a capacity of 50 tons per day and an Operating Agreement of Global Minerals Ltd.. To date have been funded in this area over 180,000 ounces of gold and 400,000 ounces of silver.

In August 2010, Aurora began exploration core drilling on the project area, the courses aim to Mack and St. Joe. It is Aurora’s plan, in 2011, begin production on the FRGP with Mack and St. Joe recorded as a medium-ore resources. The FRGP has a two year’s supply of gold telluride ore and Aurora tries to expand the resource base through drilling, enabling the company to extend the mine life of 5 years and can collect information to facilitate investment decisions on increasing capacity of the project.

Murray Watts Drilling Company Incorporated was responsible for the implementation of resource drilling, until now, BTW core holes were drilled with a total length of 4,400 feet, which were aimed at the gears Mack and St. Joe. The end of drilling is planned depending on the weather in mid to late November, as it is impossible to continue the drilling program on the FRGP with the current drilling rig in the winter.

The samples are analyzed by ALS Laboratories in Reno, Nevada.

Aurora announces the first arrivals of ALS results. The main findings include:

AGCDD0001 20.9 feet with 4.09 g / t Au & 14.53 g / t Ag from 48.8 feet deep. AGCDD0002 no significant results AGCDD0003 8.6 feet with 21.31 g / t Au and 103.61 g / t Ag from 488.1 feet deep. AGCDD0004 10.0 feet with 2.38 g / t Au & 11.81 g / t Ag from 202.2 feet deep. AGCDD0005 1.7 feet with 9.04 g / t Au & 287.0 g / t Ag from 305 feet deep. AGCDD0006 1.7 feet with 2.57 g / t Au & 9.5 g / t Ag from 424.4 feet deep.

According to Aurora, these results are very significant. The company is currently reviewing the data and tabulated the results. Aurora’s president and CEO, Lars Pearl said:

‘Aurora is the excellent results received to date. The drilling is not run very smoothly. Several holes encountered old galleries and the tragic events of forest fires in September delayed the progress and caused minor damage to the equipment. The program’s success is the contribution of all stakeholders. We are confident that the drill results received to date will enable us to extend the mine life of 5 years and give us a good basis will explore the various scenarios with a higher production on the project. ”

It is expected that upon completion of the 2010 drill program quantifies the new information on the mineralization in a NI 43-101 technical report to be included.

Aurora’s common shares are also traded on the stock exchanges in Germany in Stuttgart, Berlin and Bremen under the symbol ‘A4G’.

AMUN very interesting player in the gold market

Westerburg (aktiencheck.de AG) – Analyst Henning Wagener of AC Research reiterates the speculative investors in their initial assessment to buy the shares of AMUN precious metals trading business.

AMUN precious metal trading post was established in 2003. While the company has recently specialized in the field of management service, the company after a successful restructuring has now repositioned as a pure commodity buyers and trading company specializing in the gold trade in the market. The raw gold are supported by businesses in the usually purchased directly and locally in the respective mining areas in Africa. This strategy could have the key advantage that AMUN handle it the middleman completely and therefore acquire the gold at relatively reasonable prices (about 700 U.S. dollars per ounce). Since AMUN pay for the raw gold is usually in cash, the company is a highly reliable partner for African miners. In addition, the locals were treated in the gold rush towns of Amun to European principles. In this context, the company had already done several times development aid.

After purchasing the Gold in the United Arab Emirates / Dubai are supplied. The operator may ask refineries a price premium of up to 50% on the paid raw gold price demand and thereby to secure its profit margin. The most important trade partner is the sales Lamasat Jewellery Trading LLC. This will get the raw gold refined and then either in the international wholesale or become locally processed into finished products for the jewelry industry. Another important trade partner of Amun was the African Mibaco. Here, if it were some trading posts in key African sites over which the trade would be made. The customers of Amun could be located, ensuring that the resources offered would not come from conflict zones, and thus less “ethically acceptable” are.

In the first quarter of fiscal year 2010/2011 have AMUN be able to generate sales revenues of 0.193 million euros a surplus of 0.111 million euros or 0.30 euros per share. The company planned to increase by a considerable expansion of Rohgoldhandels revenues of 3.1 million euros in the 2010/2011 financial year until the fiscal year 2014/2015 to 23.4 million €. In the same period was to increase the projected net income of 1.02 million euros to 4.43 million euros. In addition, the company will likely enter 2011 in the trade in rough diamonds.

Analysts had valued the shares of AMUN precious metal trading business based on projected figures provided by the company with a return value model. Here we have identified a fair enterprise value of approximately 22.5 million euros. As the Company had outstanding two convertible bonds, which are expected would be exchanged for in stock, the number of shares will still increase to 0.832 million. Thus, a fair value per share is clear from € 27.08. As the company but only at its beginning to its operating performance, stand, and the further course of business is therefore still subject to higher risks, keep it at a discount of 25% to this value is appropriate and put therefore establishes the 12-month price target to 20 euros. At the same time AMUN precious metal trading business stock on Friday was trading at 10.50 euros.

The analyst says look in the stock of precious metals trading business AMUN a very interesting, but clearly speculative investment opportunity.

After another strong week of trading profit-taking have Allshare-leading index on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) on Friday, down by 1.06 percent in the red zone. At 30 118 points he recorded yet still within range of a multi-month high.
“The Meeting of G20 Finance Ministers in the context of the smoldering for weeks international monetary dispute, the risk today dampened significantly,” said an analyst of local, especially the sharp drop in bank stock prices (the bank index lost 1.7 percent on Friday). “In addition, profit-taking, according to a generally strong stock market week is normal.”

Finance ministers and central bankers of the 20 major economic powers (G20), including South Africa, have advised the South Korean city of Kyongju on weekends. In the center stood the progress in reforming the global financial system after the economic crisis and the reform of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international organizations. Also on the international currency dispute was discussed. The meeting is a preparation for the fifth G-20 summit in three weeks in Seoul.

The interest of international investors is limited but has long been not only to the heavyweights in the world economy, as many observers realize. “The African stock markets have long led a shadowy existence. But in 2010 they have come increasingly into fashion and there are also some good reasons, “the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung commented on the weekend. Some of these reasons are comparatively rapid economic growth from a heavy removable base, positive structural changes in technology and economy, a rapidly growing middle class as a support increasing consumption and mineral wealth of the continent – that calls for quite some time, particularly Chinese investors on the plan.

Thus, the acquisition activities of international groups on the continent have recently increased significantly and the fund company Fidelity has recently confirmed that Africa is getting more aware of foreign investors. Moreover, the U.S. retail giant Walmart has recently made known that he wants to take the South African mass-Mart supermarket chain. Another elephant wedding planned, however, burst again. After the end of two months of exclusive negotiations have not produced any HSBC bid for Nedbank, said the insurer Old Mutual, Nedbank’s controlling shareholder, in mid-October. The reasons for withdrawal were Old Mutual is not known, but they had nothing to do with the fact that HBSC after exploring the Nedbank was dissatisfied. The business could amount to almost 50 billion rand / Namibia Dollar.

This bad news for local investors (the shares of Old Mutual and Nedbank devalued violently) but followed the announcement by the international mining group Xstrata to invest around five billion rand in the expansion of its Lion ferrochrome smelter. “Xstrata has shown that confidence in his investment in the Cape, despite uncertainties in terms of power supply and irritating nationalization efforts in certain political circles,” commented media.

Significant losses in the stock of American Express (Amex) have burdened the Dow Jones index on Friday something. Stockbrokers justified the slight losses in the U.S. standard values with a total reluctance of investors who were waiting for the results to banking and financial regulations of the G20 summit in November.

The leading Dow Jones Industrial fell 0.13 percent to 11,132 points, having closed the previous day still on the highest level since early May. In weekly view, this meant an increase of 0.63 percent.

The Orient Chinese Zirconic participates in the Australian Zirkonmine the Styrian DCM Deco Metal. Even with chrome wants to get the Chinese on board.

Fürstenfeld. The Fürstenfelder ore, metal trading and mining house DCM Deco Metal intensified its cooperation with China: The Chinese-listed companies Orient Zirconic has joined with 65 percent of the Australian Zirkonmine of DCM.

“Orient Zirconic is a great zirkonium buyer, from many synergies for us,” head of DCM-Rohtraut convinced Skatsche-Depisch. The good relations with China, according to DCM also expressed in the fact that the new Chinese Ambassador to Austria, Shi Mingde, the company at the date of signing of the contract has visited East Zirconic.

The chrome area is currently negotiating with the major Chinese steel company Sinosteel through participation in the chrome ore mines of DCM in Albania and South Africa. Sinosteel already refers 60th year 000 tonnes of high-grade chrome ore from DCM. Sino Steel employs over 40,000 people and has around 100 holdings. DCM currently about 1,500 employees work.

450 million € turnover

For this year expects sales Skatsche-Depisch 400-450 million €. About one-third will come from the mining area, the rest from the market. “The economic crisis in commodities has taken longer than we originally thought, which has thrown us back a few years,” says Skatsche-Depisch.

The conversion of DCM from a trading house to mine and melt operator is in any event have been the right decision. The proportion of sales of the mining will not initially increase Skatsche-Depisch: “We have just the vertical integration of the new range complete, we must be careful that it does not accept it.”
